Viagra contraindications

Viagra contraindications are usually explained by a physician after evaluating a patient's condition. Viagra is a medication that, like any other prescription drug, has a number of drawbacks that patients must keep in mind before trying it.

Men who suffer from high blood pressure, or have prostate problems, need to discuss with their doctor before undergoing a Viagra treatment. Although, these medical conditions can be tackled by lowering the dose of the drug, but only if a doctor recommends it.

Sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in Viagra formula, is not distributed uniformly in each tablet due to its chemical structure. In fact, it is due to this reason that Viagra is produced with the same formulation all the time, but in doses that range from 25 mg to 50 and 100 mg.

Viagra is a relatively safe medication when prescribed, but some of its non active ingredients such as nitric oxide/cGMP may cause unpredictable reactions because of the ability that this drug has potentiate hypotensive effects.

Patients with severe impairment in renal function, those who are suffering from low blood pressure (hypotension) or men who have had a heart attack or stroke, will be warned of Viagra contraindications and offered alternatives to treat their erectile dysfunction.

Viagra works on the penis increasing the flow of blood that promotes an erection, but the drug is not a hormone. Men who are diagnosed with decreased liver function must avoid this medication because sildenafil is metabolized and excreted by the liver, affecting also the kidneys.

After the skyrocket launching of Viagra in the United States during the late 1990s, the drug suddenly became a real "best seller" of the pharmaceutical companies. Over time, Viagra contraindications where enriched after discovering a new side effect: light sensitivity.

Therefore, men who have hereditary degenerative retinal disorders, have contraindicated the use of Viagra to avoid the eventual risk of blindness, especially in those men with genetic disorders of retinal phosphodiesterases.

Some patients who have reported blurry vision or night blindness have been told that this is a temporary condition that occurs rarely, after Pfizer tested a large number of patients. However, the major concern are still nitrates, which after Viagra may become unsafe and harmful.

Of course, Viagra contraindications include the avoidance of this drug when a patient has shown hypersensitivity to any of the components in Viagra’s formula. Although the incidence of adverse side effects is often associated to people taking Viagra without medical advice.

Last but not least, Viagra must not be used with other therapies to treat erectile dysfunction, such as vacuum devices, injections, or Muse, because these methods in conjunction with Viagra have not been fully tested.
