Viagra Dependence
Erectile dysfunction (ED) may occur as soon as 18 years of age, so Viagra is not a medication just for elderly people. Even though older men are benefiting from it, since it is expected that some changes that come with aging affect their body function, sexually speaking.
Viagra dependence is a "stand-alone" habit, since the medication has been widely tested, finding that it has no interaction with other medications than might lead to dependence, including aspirin, alcohol, antacids, blood thinners, or diabetic medications.
Furthermore, Viagra is not an aphrodisiac and does not increase libido in men. However, a misleading “word of mouth” propaganda, makes people believe that taking the drug helps to improve their sexual life, providing extra sexual capabilities that otherwise men could not achieve without it.
This wrong perception creates a dependence, and there are healthy men who are unable to have an erection without taking Viagra, despite being diagnosed with no medical reason preventing an erection.
Researchers have found that sexuality has no expiration date, hence there is no reason either for those men who take Viagra regularly after a certain age just to avoid losing their sexuality.
Ability to achieve erections is not determined by Viagra dependence, but physical condition. The intake of the drug without knowledge and without a prescription may lead to unwanted side effects and harmful overuse situations.
For instance, since May 22, 1998, Pfizer circulated a warning to all health care providers, reminding the contraindications of sildenafil citrate with concomitant administration of any drug containing organic nitrate.
Generic Viagra is a polemic alternative to Pfizer's Viagra, which is said that it simply does not exist as a generic product, but as a mixture of herbs that may cause a real dependence, such as Yohimbe, considered an aphrodisiac capable of provoking an erection.
